Default problems with fork brace

i just got a kuryakyn fork brace and while installing it one of the clamps broke at the bolt.
anyone else have this brace on there wide glide part #8620. if so have you had any problems out of it. i sent an email to the tech support at kuryakyn to see if they will replace the clamp or the whole thing guess i'll just have to wait and see.

I've got one and have not had any problems. however, I must say that I thought it felt pretty lite and cheap upon inspection unlike how chromed metal should feel. that ring portion definetly doesn't seem to be anything of metal , more of an alloy deal? [:'(] if mine ever fails I'll go for the superbrace from our sponsers.

I've gotten several items from kuryakyn and not bee happy with any of them. The head bolt covers looked nice, but the cheap set screws didn't fit any allen wrench known to man - metric or sae. Same thing with their flag mounts for saddlebag guards. Nice chrome, but the crappiest hardware I've ever seen.

I could be wrong, but in the picture of your busted fork brace, it looks like die cast. I don't think I'd want a die cast fork brace.

yeah looking at it almost looks like it is cast them chrome but is some kind of alloy. and there tech dept was pretty fast in answering but since i don't have a receipt I'll end up have to buy just the clamp part of it for 24.95 witch is better than having to replace the whole thing i guess
rebel when you put yours on you just snug down the bolts on the clamp. i done mine with the allen wrenches they provided but guess i just tried to tighten them down to much bad habit i guess always try to tighten everything down as tight as possible going to have to learn not to crank down on everything.

Looks like you would just want to snug them bolts down with some loctite on them.

I secured the "bridge" first to the inner rings then secured the outer rings around the sliders in a "even as possible" fashion. meaning front and rear gaps being equal. hand tighten w/allenshort of your "crank", take for a short spin then retighten as necessary. get in the habit of checking periodically. ironically,if not tight enough they will start working their way down the slider. good luck

Most likely they are forged Aluminum. Forged parts are stronger than cast but, they give the appearance of a forged part when they break.

I would suggest sending it back and getting a Suberbrace or HD brace. Superbrace is aircraft grade aluminum.
You won't brake them installing.

not to steal the thread, but the SE brace i bought appears to be a bit more substantial. However it too had problems on the install. the supplied bolts were too short. Had to go down the Ace Hardware to get some longer ones to finish up the installation. The bolts included in the kit only had about 1 thread available to screw into the brace. you'd think there would be some quality control by HD. So Kury isn't the only ones with quality issues. course, likely neither Kury or HD actually make their braces. they are probably bought from a sub contactor, and repackaged.
