Forward controls on a Streetbob
Thanks for the input everyone.
I think I am going to order the forwards online and take a good look at the instructions. I work with a few people that should be able to help me if I have any questions. (fingers crossed) Plus, when I bought the bike the dealer threw in a $250 gift card that I could use for anything I wanted. If I can't do it myself I can put the card towards the install and not worry about it. I would order the forwards and use the card but I can definately get them online cheaper.
Thanks again and if I decide to do the install myself I will get the digital camera out and take pictures as I step through the process.

Don't do it on your own, let the dealer do it and if it's screwed up then they have to fix it. I wouldn't be going at a brand new 15,000 bike with a saw-zall. But that's just my opinion.

More than likely I will be taking it in to get them installed. I too am low on funds but I don't have enough guts to start cutting anything on the bike. I think the wife would kick the crap out of me if I tried. [sm=badidea.gif]
I don't get why you can't pull the shift lever off the shaft and cap it like on my '05, Is the shifter welded on or something? I used the stock HD FXWG parts on mine and it was a two hour job. There's a bracket that goes on the engine side of the inner primary that bolts the shifter in place and a cap that goes on the shaft where it sticks through the inspection plate. Piece o' cake.
Well worth the effort for me anyway, I like to ride with my feet on the highway pegs and hated not having the back brake available in an emergancy

I stopped by the dealership yesterday. There was an '06 superglide on the floor, and I took a close look at the shifter mechanism. There's a lot less space between the inner primary and the case than there used to be.
From what I could see, the inner shafter arm appears to be welded to the shaft. The only way to get it out is remove the inner primary. You could leave the shaft and arm in place, but you'll have to find a way of tying it up so it doesn't hang below the bottom of the primary.
The transmission arm on the WG seems to be a little taller than on other models, too.
I don't see why it can't be done. The two minor problems could be fairly easily overcome, I think. Capping the end, and tying up the arm. Maybe another use for JB Weld Stick?
Another thought was, as long as it's all apart, you might as well install a chrome WG cover without the shifter shaft hole.
