Forward Controls - never mind, found instructions online
OK, silly question.
Put the forward controls on, easy job, so far.
I did not take the original shifter rod out, or the linkage that is attached to it.
I was figuring on using the cap they supply until I do my inner and outer primary covers one day. (when funds allow)
The question is, what's going to stop that thing from rattling, and possibly flipping back and forth until them? Am I missing something?
Even if I cut off the shaft from the outside, the old stuff is still behind, all loose.
Sorry if this question has been covered, I was going blind reading all options, and noneI saw mentioned this.
I have an 06 dyna low rider and I tuck it towards the back in towards the center of the bike. I then pulled it snug and capped it. I do not hear a rattle and it stays in place. Not sure if you have pipes if you would here a rattle anyway. I mainly wanted it to not move around on me and potentially get in way.
I did the same using the cap. It sits all the way forward and no rattle at all. When I put the cap on, I pushed the linkage as far out as I could and held it as I slid the cap on as far as it could go, then had the OL tighten it down. It fits pretty damn snug and have done numerous 4-8 hour trips and noticed no hearable rattle, nor has it moved out of position after a ride.
Here's how I did mine. I fabricated a small bracket which attaches to the engine bolt. It's about 1/8" thick piece of stainless. You need to cut a slot as opposed a hole because you can't completely remove the engine bolt. The opposite end has a 5/16" hole. Then I ran a 5/16"-24stainless socket head cap screw through the old shifter arm, then through a 1/2" spacer, then the bracket and finally placed a nut on the other side of the bracket. I needed the spacer so enough of the splined shaft stuck out in order to cap it where it protudes through the primary cover. Works great and actually looks like part of the bike.
Good luck and good fabbing.

You don'thave to remove the primary on the 2006 and up Dyna's. The 2006 kit comes with a longer rear shift lever that requires you to remove the primary to install it. That longer shift lever will give you more leverage for an easier shift, but it will also increase your throw. I preferthe shorter throw andit isn't any harder to shift then the original set up. I bought thethe cheaper 2005 kit because I planned on getting a custom shift rod. You have to use a longer shift rod with the 2005 kit other wise the front shift lever will hit the primary when you up shift. Also the 2005 kit comes with a bracket to bolt down the original shift lever, but it is pretty easy to remove, read below.
Removing the original shift shaft lever
Geta hacksaw blade and tape each end with duct tape, leaving about two inches exposed in the middle. Also put some duct tape on the primary and cylinder cooling fins. Tape a wrench onone end to get a better grip (on the end of the bladeso as you pull on the wrench you will be on the cutting stroke of the blade). Slip the blade between the primary and engine from the bottom of the bike with the wrench end on the bottom. Use your other hand to guide the top of the blade as you cut. I cut about three quarters thru then wrapped a rag around the shift lever and used vise grips on the other end of the shaft splines and sheared it off.

I used achrome carriage bolt http://www.chromebolt.com/51618-x-13...olt-p-845.html, and put atwo inchpiece of rubber hose on the threads then added some shrink sleeving on the hose to get a nice snug press fit into the empty shaft hole.

Where did you find the instructions?
Where did you find the instructions?
I was like a kid at Christmas when the box arrived, I had to open it, touch, feel etc.. Took out the instructions, read them, and put them somewhere safe for whenI have time to install the forwards.
Well, they are still in that safe spot, I'm sure I'll come accross them one day.
It was easy installing without them though, fairly straight forward, but then came extra parts, and a lose linkage at completion.
As far as finding new instructions, I just type into my search engine, "Kuryakyn 9063 forward control installation instructions", and it was the first one, in PDF form.
Skullguy, that's a damn fine idea.
WS6, I read that thread during my search, but was frustrated and wanted immediate gratification. Great thread, and might end up doing that before the end of the summer.I planned on doing the inner and outter primaries next winter, but we'll see how long I can take that Zit in the center of the primary.
Thanks to all for your help, greatideas!
