Default Lower the bike, cut original springs? Possible?

I´m thinking of cutting the original springs om my SB -07 to lower the rear end. Is it possible? (I did it on a car once, worked well).

I know that the end of the spring is thinner/flat to make the spring have more surface.

Is it possbile to de-assemble the shocks to remove the spings, cut off o part of the springs, to get the rear approx. 1 inch lowered.

Progressive shocks are expensive over here...was thinking of saving a buck or two.

(sorry for my bad english, hope understand what I mean)

bosken, yes it can be done.

You will need to shorten the shaft also.

Disassembly can be dangerous/deadly. so be careful.

Better off going with Progressive. Safer than trying to take apart, and much better ride than stock.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!ABSOLUTLY NO!!!!!!!!i wouldnt recommend it at all. reason is becausesprings are made with the ends coiled to have flat ends, sothe entire spring willset flat on the collet. if you cut the spring then there isnt no flatends on the spring. therefore when the spring compresses it will want to spring out of its collets, because it will only compressone half of the spring, making it want to kink, it willnot allow the spring to compress onall sidescorrectly, making it a rough and dangerous ride. hit a bump real hard and watch that spring come flying out or kink anddamage your shaft in the middle of the spring. then you will be buying new springs anyways. have you thought of new shocks or lowering blocks?
the reason i say this is because i used to be a die maker and seen some people do some dumb things makingstamping diesand that is one of them. i have seen stamping dies costing 100,000 destoryed because they decided to try and cut the spring down, instead of ordering the right spring for the job. i have seen springs fly out, ive seen them destrory the shaft in the center and i have seen spring total shatter. i just wanted to let you know my experinces with springs and the dangers of springs. jackyl

Cutting the spring will increase the spring rate, it makes it stiffer.

save your money for another week and buy the proper springs. I spoke to a few people and they are saying you may bottom out the rear if you use brackets to relocate....I also hear of bumping your belt guard.......

so I say save your weekly allowance and hold out for the more expensive lowering spring set.
