Default 92 FXDC

On my 92 FXDC (Screamin eagle cam, carb and Ign) what else was done I don't know I just got the scoot.
I have a "ticking" sound that does not go away even when the bike is warmed up. It seems to keep pace with the acceleration or idle of the scoot.I have been told it was lifter noise or Piston slap. Any ideas what it might be and where to look. I really don't want to spend money I don't have to.

If you get a chance, take some pics and post 'em. I'd love to see what your bike looks like. I mean, I know the colors are going to be the same, but I'm talking about the customizations.

Sounds like maybe the tappets need to be replaced. I had noise coming from the right side years ago, same type as you describe and a mechanic suggested they be done. He told me the earlier Evos needed them changed every 35k miles to prevent them from damaging your camshaft lobes. Mine got some pits in it because I waited too long- had to change cam too.

A set runs about $200 and the labor is about 3-4 hours, as I recall.

Thats something to look into, I never thought about tappets. I was wondering about the piston, I rode it homefrom Fla when I bought it (1023) miles and back and fourth to Sturgis ( 988 miles each way). I just can'tseem to remember the noise beingthis loud last season. I just hope I don't have to redo my top end.. Season is just starting out...
