The short answer is no you do not need support brackets But.... they will eventually damage your paint somewhere or will be damaged from the brake disk.Mine destroyed the paint on my back fender and wore through the paint on my belt guard.If you're the type of person that's real particular about your paint job I would recomend the support brackets or getting something like Easy Brackets.

No problems with small bags BUUUUT better safe than sorry. If you are on the road and they get wrapped up in your back wheel it can lock up and instant death. I read a thread about this happening to some one while riding on the interstate in a group and they all watched him die.

I can't speak for all bikes or all bags but I mounted Willie and Max Ranger bags on my Bob with no support bracket.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
do they flop around at all?
Nope, they're solid as a rock.&nbsp\\; They're tied to the top and bottom of the shock and the back is tied to a bungee nut installed where the rear sigs used to be.

I agree. I made my own because they didn't make them when I bought my bike. Now they sell them for like $150. I used a 1/8"&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;X 2" angle iron&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;with a 1 1/8" hole in it and slipped that between the chrome and fender and used 3/8" steel rod to bend and weld to that. They rubbed on my shocks before I added a rubber snubber cuz they were off a bit. Careful measurements.

My experience is, you're a lot better off with supports.&nbsp\\; And you can find them a lot cheaper than $150.
