check oil straight up or on stand
I am so confused! And here I am a noob with probably a stupid question. Do I check crankcase oil on the stand or holding the bike up? I have searched on here and find both ways as the the way to do it. Might be different for different models right? What I have here is a new to me 02 Dyna Superglide. The dipstick is on the engine. It probably tells me in the manual which I do not have at this time!

RE: check oil straight up or on stand
According to the manual, 1. \\; Ride the motorcycle until the engine is at normal operating temperature. \\; 2. With the vehicle resting on the stand on level ground, allow the engine to idle for one to two minutes. 3. \\; Turn it off and check it.

gsreimers is correct. \\; He quotes the owner's manual which states: "According to the manual, 1. \\;\\\\\\; Ride the motorcycle until the engine is at normal operating temperature. \\;\\\\\\; 2. With the vehicle resting on the stand on level ground, allow the engine to idle for one to two minutes. 3. \\;\\\\\\; Turn it off and check it. "
