Default check oil straight up or on stand

I am so confused! And here I am a noob with probably a stupid question. Do I check crankcase oil on the stand or holding the bike up? I have searched on here and find both ways as the the way to do it. Might be different for different models right? What I have here is a new to me 02 Dyna Superglide. The dipstick is on the engine. It probably tells me in the manual which I do not have at this time!

Not knowing the true answer, I'd have to say standing up. The later models have a floating dipstick so you can check it on the stand.

According to the manual, 1.&nbsp\\; Ride the motorcycle until the engine is at normal operating temperature.&nbsp\\; 2. With the vehicle resting on the stand on level ground, allow the engine to idle for one to two minutes. 3.&nbsp\\; Turn it off and check it.

if you can check it whilst sitting on the bike then try it, noting the level. Then try again on the stand, after that you will know which level is right either way.

Dont need service manual to get that info, its in your owners manual.
On the stand, should be one level for warm engine, one for cold.

gsreimers is correct.&nbsp\\; He quotes the owner's manual which states: "According to the manual, 1.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Ride the motorcycle until the engine is at normal operating temperature.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; 2. With the vehicle resting on the stand on level ground, allow the engine to idle for one to two minutes. 3.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Turn it off and check it. "
