Default Street Bob with Forward Controls

Was really up in the air as far as what bike to get. I'm 6'5" and wasn't finding anything relatively comfortable. Then I set on the Wide Glide. I love the forward controls. Looks wise I like the Street Bob a lot. The dealer didn't have any with fwd controls mounted. Is the feel similar to the stock Wide Glide?

I'm 6'4" with long legs and all knees when I'm sitting down, and I find my Bob to be comfortable. I left the mid controls and mounted up some forward highway pegs (skulls). It feels good to me. This setup allows you two different riding positions. When you're stretched out your weight is supported by your seat and backbone. When your riding with feet in mid position it allows your feet and legs to support some of your weight and gives you a much more coordinated feel. Also with highway pegs you can just use your heel to cycle gears or apply the brake, sort of making forward controls not necessary.

I have done quite a few miles on WGs and think the riding position is very similar.

I am 6'5" also. I have a Wide Glide with forward control and I put on a 2" extension. I also put on heel supports which I really like. I think the Street Bob would be the same. I did not leave the mid pegs on, but that might not be a bad idea to try. You can always take them off. If that is possible.

Hell..I'm only 6' and I couldn't ride a bike without forward controls. I have to imagine the St Bob would be similar to my Wide Glide if you put the forward controls...especially considering they both have apes. One difference though would be seat height. A wide glide sits at least an inch and a half/two inches higher than the Bob (stock anyway).
That said, some folks prefer mid mounts with forward highway pegs. The only problem I would have with that is in slower traffic where the majority of the time you'd be on the mids. I say either get a wide glide or a street bob with forward controls.

I was watching the Jesse James produced "History of the Chopper' yesterday. Great info and 2 hours long. Extremely well detailed.

The San Francisco Hells Angels has some interesting things to say about the forward controls. They hate them. These guys ride their rigs like dirt bikes and the forwards don't give em the control they would like for their riding style which was very aggressive based on the footage I saw. Those dudes can RIDE.

Every single bike (if not the VAST majority) they were riding were various configurations of the post 1958 twin rear shock frame and every single one of 'em had mid controls on it. The bikes were mildly customized/converted narrow glide 70's FLH's, Low Riders, wide glides and Superglides of every vintage. You name the varient, they were riding it.

Kinda strange seeing that because most bikes in my neck of the woods are running forward controls and my bike is usually the exception with mids. I taped this show to DVD and will try to pull a frame off the video and post some pics.

Well, I headed over to the HD dealer nearest the house tonight and they had a street bob, denim, with forward controls mounted. It was all I could do not to ride it home. But, it's been a long time since I've ridden so I told myself I would go take the MSF course and rent a bike or two before I committed.

All I can say is I know for sure what bike I will be getting. Black denim street bob. I am more than sold at this point. Love everything about it and I don't feel like I look like Herman Munster on it.....

fl 799 - you were talking about the San Fran. Hell's Angels, I saw a show which was partially about a group/gang called the Ching-a-Ling's. They rode their Harley's like they were 600 series Yamaha's. And some of these guys were small frame 150 lbs or less getting their front wheels off the ground on their softails by a couple feet.

ya know i would like forward controls but from what i see of pictures i think they stick out too far.i bet they are comfortable as hell but i dont like the look its looks like it sticks between the frame and the front tire.i do like the midcontrol i do feel like i have more contol of the bike.
