Going on a road trip
I'm heading to Vegas for a night next week with my girlfriend. Since I cannot ride 2-up on my bike and have no luggage space, we rented an '09 Electra Glide classic to ride there on. Should be fun, it's about 250 miles from here so it will be a nice ride. I've ridden Street Glides before but never a touring bike with a tour pack, it will be nice to have the storage space though.

Have a good trip. I rode a rental down there from SLC. Honestly, I didn't think that Vegas was a very motorcycle friendly town. The casinos and resorts aren't geared for motorcycle parking, the roads aren't in great shape. High winds (depending on the time of year) can really push you around. The drivers out there damn sure don't care about you.
That said, it's nice to cruise down the Strip at night if you can catch a break on the traffic. Red Rock canyon could be a fun ride, too.

I agree with wbeem. Traffic on the strip is horrible. I was there for the first time last June. The movie myth faded away with the first red light. The light cycles are extremely long, the taxi drivers are insane, the limo drivers are even worse, and the sport car renting cagers are looking for drag races at every light. It ain't a motorcycle friendly town to ride in.
I stayed at the MGM Grand and have to say they were very motorcycle friendly. We pulled into the Valet area and they had us follow a hotel car into the motorcycle only lot. I was glad to park the bike, by that time. It stayed parked for 3 days without trouble. I will never again be tempted to ride the strip, though. It was miserably hot and slow.
Tons of great riding all around the area, though. Check out Hoover Dam if you get the chance. It's amazing in person!
Have a good trip. Winner winner, chicken dinner.

We are heading up on tuesday and the only riding I plan on doing is up and back. This isn't my first time going to Vegas, but first time riding there, I know people drive nuts on the strip and that's why I'm parking at the Hotel when I get there and not touching the bike until we leave. It's during the week and the only riding will be when people are at work so hopefully the traffic on the strip won't be to bad.

Traffic sucks, but it is the Vegas strip. I will always remember my wife and I side by side as we rode (sat in traffic) by the Belagio at night during the water show.
Mandalay Bay was really cool about the bikes. They waved us through the cars and parked us behind the Valet desk under the canopy.
Epic trip.
