Hey, Seen for sale a complete 2009 96 cubic inch top end , rods, pistons, cams, cylinders, heads, intake, air filter & brackets, complete top end. I have a 99 FXD with the 88 cubic inch motor and would like to know if the parts are compatible. Its from a fuelly where mine has carbs. Anyone here ever done the switch. He is offering it all for 500$, is this a good deal?. Will i need any additional parts or machine work? Thanks to all.

 

fried, if you're wanting to do this for the cubic inches,
the pistons are the same size, so you gain nothing there.

I don't know exactly which of those parts will be compatible with your 1999 88.

Yes induction module is included. Everything from the rods to the air cleaner. Price is good, just trying to figure out if it's worth changing. Mine is in great shape but one of my lower cylinder gaskets is seeping. Planning on doing it next winter.

 

Mud, so if the pistons are the same size has the wrist pin location changed or have the rods changed?

 

Probably both don.

Yep, the wrist pin location (height) is different. The heads and intake are the only parts you can use but both are an improvement over what you have. $500 is a decent deal but you need to spend another $500+ to make it worth-while.

I'd pass though and spend the $500 on mild head work and good cams.

 

I'd say pass also chandler.

rework the stock heads and buy cams to match etc etc.

What's different on the 96 cylinders??

Be some issues using the FI on the originally carbed machine.

The big difference between the 88 and the 96 is the crank stroke. That is how the motor company used the same size jugs and pistons on the 96. You only need to change the jugs and pistons to get the 103 from the 96.

 

Thanks guy's. Think i'll take the advise and pass on them. Going to take a look at some cams. Any suggestions? Mild head work, you talking port and polish or something different. Any advise is greatly appriciated!
