Default SE Air Cleaner Filter Maintenance

What kind of maintenance should I be doing on my SE air cleaner element? I bought one of those K&N filter recharge kits, but I don't think it's for my SE air cleaner. Also, while I'm thinking about it, has anybody replaced the SE air cleaner element for the K&N element without having the bike re-dynoed?

Just to clear things up, I have the old round SE air cleaner and not the new 'pointy' one.

I'm not sure if the SE filter will handle the rechage or not. I have heard stories of them falling apart. Just switching from the SE round filter to a K&N will not require a Dyno tune.

You can wash them in soapy water, rinse clean and let air dry over night. Do NOT oil like you would with a K&N. I replaced my SE element with a K&N this spring. Dyno? Why?

I washed mine and it looked ok but I replaced it with a K&N anyway.

The HD S/E air filter is a paper filter. The K&N is cotton fiber and it is designed to take a reoiling whereas the paper won't.

Until recently all the SE filters were K&N....ditch the POS SE one and get the K&N which is a lifetime filter. No need to re-dyno but it does flow better. Just don't over oil it or you will have red oil dripping all over your bike.

Oh and don't ask how I know this........
