HELP! Bike won't start
When the temp drops below 60F my bike won't start. This morning I went out to start it up and it wouldn't turn over. Today at noon I tried again and it started. Could it be my PCIII program?
Humm... Did it make any sounds at all, fuel pump? Was your lights and tach working... If not, maybe a loose power or ground cable. I cant think of anything that would be effect by temperature and not let it start?!?!?! Anyone else?
If battery is low, the colder it gets the harder it is to start, if it'll start at all, like in this case. Charge the battery and see if that fixes it, besides, it's the *simplest* first thing to try.
+1 if it sounds like its trying to turn over and it wont this is probably it.
are you getting a semi back fire when you try to start it. does fuel shoot out of the air cleaner when this happens? I have had a simmilar problem. I have a pc III too. think that could be it if so.
Ok try this:
1. make sure run switch is on
2. tighten battery cables
3. make sure ground strap is tight
4. charge battery on tender
5. if these fail pull battery and load test on a MC battery tester
6. If you need a new battery you can get the identical battery from East Penn Deka (google) as they make all of the HD batteries and it will be $40 cheaper than your HD dealer price. Look on their website for a local distributor.

All the electronics turn on i.e. lights, speedo, fuel pump, etc. When I press the ignition the starter winds but the engine doesn't start. If I keep trying I can smell gas but the engine still doesn't start. But like I said, at noon I tried and the bike started.
I charged the battery a couple of weeks ago and all the battery cables are secured. My bike is an '06, could I need a battery already?

Do you know what injectors you have 8 or 25 degree? I still have the 8 degree injectors and have recently started having cold start issues. To see what injectors you have use a flash light and look in behind the horn. If the part # ends in "A" than you have the good 25 degree injectors.
How many times below 60 degrees has it not started, just this one time or more? What was the temp when it started later? After it started how did it run? Any back fires through the intake or exhaust if so which one?
I am not familiar with PCIII's do they have cold start 2d programing? or do they just have a 3d fuel modifier of rpms and MAP pressure/TPS? If it just does the 3d and has no cold start programing that will make drastic varied temps from tune on starts to be a problem. Once engine is at temp it would run just fine though.

I noticed the problem started in Feb but didn't pay it much mind because the mornings were so cold (between 30 and 40 degrees).
What was the temp when it started later?
This morning the temp was mid to lower 50s. At noon the temp was above 60 degrees.

After it started it ran okay. I've been getting a lot of backfires from the exhaust lately especially right as it starts up. The exhaust smells a bit rich too.
