Default Installing Progressives?

I bought some 412-4037 Progressives from another HDF member and I need some advice on installation...

1) Do I need a center stand to do this? Or can I use a floor jack?

2) Are there any tricks to getting the stock shocks off?

3) What do I torque the nuts to?

any info is always apprecaited,

Thanks, JB

lower bolt 30-40 ft-lbs upper 75-85 ft-lbs. I did mine with the jiffy stand. Just do one side at a time. Use blue locktite. You should pick up a service manual and parts manual they really are handy. Not trying to bust your junk. Good luck

You have the torque specs. As for the rest of the install, it can be done with a floor jack/bike lift. Just have something to support the rear wheel so it doesn't slam when you remove the shock bolts and then you can raise/lower the lift to adjust the bike to line the holes up when you get the new shocks back on and go to do the lower bolts. Use loctite - always. And, beware, if you have rear passenger pegs and there is a chance the right side mount can hit the pipes when you release that swingarm, go ahead and remove the mount before doing any of the work. It will save your pipes from an ugly dent.

you can't do it on the jiffy unless the shocks are the same length.
15 minute job with a lift.

BS I did and I went from stock to progressive 11 inch. But a jack would be easier.

Careful on the torque specs. Depends on the bike.

The '09 Dyna Service manual says to use 2-3 drops of blue loctite and torque BOTH UPPER AND LOWER bolts to 30-40 ft. lbs.

I encountered no problems changing out the original shocks on my FXDF to Progressive 440's. I did put it on a lift, but think it might be possible w/o the lift one shock obviously at a time.

i just grabed my bike, lifted it up, used my fingers to unscrew the old shocks, pulled of off the old shocks, put on the new ones, tightend those with my teeth, set down my bike again.. great shoulder work out... do not forget to stretch!
