Default Loud shifting noise

Ok guys and gals just a quick question for ya. I have an 09 FXDC and im coming up on my 1000mi service which I plan to do on my own. ( If I can work on Militart Helicopters i should be able to service a HD right) any way I left her in my garage in Kansas while I went to Virginia for the summer. Before I parked her I noticed when I would shift I would hear a loud click is this normal. Also I usually leave it in first when I park it. It feel as if the clutch isnt fully engaged when I start her. When I turn the engine over the bike will surge ever so slightly forward but not enough that Im gonna drop her or anything like that. Let me know what ya think.

If you ain't CAV you ain't ****......

OK. Starting her in first gear isn't terminal, but not recommended. The clanking noise as you cycle through gears seems to be prevelant.
But according to HD." NORMAL".

I have the same noise.

This is my third HD big twin everyone would make that bang or clunk when you put it into first gear for the first time. Not to worry it's normal.

I run B&M Trick Shift in the primary and Spectro gear oil in the tranny and my clunk is gone.

few reasons, mostly technical. but simply put, Ya futz around and turn her over, she's liable to lurch forward and knockin you on your ***.
Some folks have a habit of givin er' gas on the start, imagine if she's in gear, no clutch, ignite, throttle up while in gear??
Bad scene.
and.... it ruins the clutch.
