You can buy the cables and software CD a lot of places, including the online dealers.
You can collect data and change tuning, but the smarts of analyzing the recorded data and then determining what should be adjusted is not included... you will have to learn it. There are books written on the subject.

Screw the SERT, and buy the TTS Mastertune. They are who created the SERT in the first place. They are no longer, because TTS wanted to put more "stuff" in the software than Harley wanted. With the TTS you get the cable and CD and it's about the same price.... and you can do your own own tuning runs. Any laptop running win98 to Vista can run it. Go google "tts mastertune" and do a bit of reading....
The ONLY drawback to the TTS is it locks itself to your bike. But I view it like I would view any other decent mod or upgrade: it goes with the bike if - if I sell it.
I'm running the TTS and it works great.
Someone is feeding you a big load of bu!!**** there Randy.
Latus Harley in Portland has been trained to use the TTS, (I know this from the guy who does the training) so when time comes for a dyno run.... that's where I'm headed.
