exaust leak at muffler
heres my current delehma. i believe the exaust system is stock. ive noticed a leak where the muffler slips on the front pipe. ive recently had the entire system off for cleaning and changing all the seals. the leak was there when i got the bike and it is still there after reassembly. it has to be due to something not cinching up tight enough. the nut on the muffler clamp is as tight as i can get it. and because of the where the two pipes are connected together by the smaller pipes(dont know what theyre called) and the heat shield, the clamp has to be pretty much in a certain position. im wondering if maybe the clamp or the pipe end is out of shape and just wont tighten up properly. maybe i should change muffler clamp on front muffler and see if that helps. it appears to be "puffing" where the clamp bolt gap is and, where the mufflers split is. so im wondering if there is a better position for the clamp. can anyone help shed some light on this? i know that all the little things im trying to get straightened out will make the bike happier and me too. it was obvious its been doing this for quite a while as it was all carboned up around that area and at the union joint. i was really hoping i would solve the leak. a new set of pipes isnt in the budget at this time.

What model and year bike?
The Torca clamps are known to fail after multiple uses. Try buying some new clamps (~$8 ea). You could also try some hi-temp sealant like 'Permatex Ultra Copper'. Just make sure to let it cure for 24hrs.
Good luck!

its a 1995 dyna low rider. i was kind of thinking the clamp could be the culprit. i suppose its possible its misshapened. i not sure if the rear is leaking since the front muffler ends right about where the clamp is. do you think that turning it around and reposition it would help at all or should i just replace it? i would be pointless to replace it if the new clamp allows muffler to leak still.
nice scoot for sure! Just buy new clamps for 8$ a pop what's the deal? While you have the clamp off slide that muffler out and check both ends where they meat for abnormalities, dents stretches or off-roundness. And while your getting new clamps pick up a tube of copper paste that Ratbob suggested,it's only about 6$ a tube, and you won't need much. Good luck, ride safe.
well i got new clamp cleaned inside muffler and end of pipe. just isnt workig, still leaking. tried clamp in differnt positions, moved muffler back and forward and nothing seems to work. begining to wonder if it could be the pipe or weld on crossover pipe. i just dont know. anyone have any good exaust system take offs for reasonible price?

thought about the incense or lighter to locate the problem area exactly. its in same place no matter what i do. how would i use the copper sealer? i dont mean to sound stupid but ive never had to deal with this. i may just have to live with it. i do appreciate the suggestions and help.
