Hey jmpancoast,

I think I had them in wrong. I took it all apart and did it backwards to what the manual said ( as you said) and I think it is gtg now. When I say ''backwards'' I mean where it tells to rotate the short this way and the long one that way, I did it opposite.

I also bought the J&P spokes- $50. But I didn't want to spring for the others because the bike is completely apart and I'm on a tight budget. Also next year I will likely go to a wideglide front end. I would definately buy the best you can afford and live with the results.

I'm going with these from drag specialties Part # DS-380139. Does anybody have any insight on these with having to deal with rust. I've read a few that were happy with them, but this rust question wasn't asked in the other threads and I didn't think about it. It said it's chrome and stainless and for 55 bucks I figured I'd wing it. Not sure what's chrome or stainless. I ordered them last week and waiting for them to come in, but I would like to find out if I should go with something else before I lace it up. Thanks!

Bingo. They will be marked specifically chromed steel, or stainless steel.

And what can I expect to have someone do it for me.. Some dude told me that he would charge me about 650 bucks to take off the old ones, install the new, true, balance the wheel... ???
thanks

holy bat-crap, diaperman! 650 large?!
where are you? I'll do it for 75/wheel (off the bike)...
I prefer Buchanon spokes, but there are others: landmark, Drag Specialties...
expect to pay upward of 200+ per set. 2 words: spend it.
as far as a shop goes, chances are you'll spend about 3 hours labor plus the spokes/ wheel.
hope this helps
roll on
