If you need help with the lacing, let me know. I have the lacing details from the factory manual I can send you.
Thanks! According to the post I found, no spacers are needed if I lace the rim to the stock hub using a 200 tire. The spacer isnt a problem either way, as I havea access to a machine shop. Just needed clarification/heads up if modification to the spacers were needed. Im no where close to being ready to do this mod yet. Just gathering all the correct info for the planning part.

Thanks again!

Default incorrect spoke part #s

So I ordered the KHD902SS which should have fit according to the info provided here and in other threads. After waiting for a week to get the spokes having already paid for a re-stocking fee to send back the other spokes I was told would work but didn't I now have to pay another re-stocking fee because the spokes are in fact TOO LONG by over an inch. Sweet. I love wasting money.

Where did they come from?

I got a set through Drag Specialties that I know work!! But they are chrome steel. Ive not opened the package yet, but a friend of mine did this mod using these spokes. Everyone seems hell bent on the stainless spokes, so i ordered some from Jireh. I have both sets in my hand... i think Ill open the stainless ones and measure them with the ones I got from drag.
If they are the same. i'll glady send you these chrome steel ones.

Also... (im sure you're aware of this) but make sure you have the right spoke in the right row. They are supposed to be staggered.. I seen a post where another guy did this. he put the long ones in the short row, and the short ones in the long row.. Make sense?

WOW!! I just measured the ss spokes from jireh and they are 9 3/4" long!
The spokes from Drag are 8 1/4" So it looks like I will be sending back the stainless spokes!

The PN for drag is DS380139 and they DO work! i think the description for them says they are for a 21" wheel with a aluminum hub or a 19" wheel with a steel hub

The PN for Jireh is 31-91 according to catalog description they are 21" Polished Stainless Steel Spoke for
sportster & Super Glide with disc brake to custom rim..

On the label of the DS Spokes. It says Chrome spokes fits 73-07 FX XL models 19" Drop Center rim
I pulled up the PDF catalog and found

FRONT & REAR WHEEL SPOKE SETS

31-88 31-80 31-94
16” H-DR 74”, 80” & SportsterR hub (steel). 6/8 40

FRONT WHEEL SPOKE SETS
31-89 31-87 31-95

18” or SportsterR & Super GlideR with disc brake to 18” custom 6/8 40
19” rim or 19” drop center rim.

31-90 31-84

19” SportsterR & Super GlideR with disc brake to custom rim. 6/8 40

31-91 31-85

21” SportsterR & Super GlideR with disc brake to custom rim. 6/8 40

N/A

31-81 31-97 18” or H-DR 74” steel hub to 18” custom rim or 6/8 40

19” 19” drop center rim.

31-92 31-82

19” H-DR 74” steel hub to 19” custom rim. 6/8 40

31-93 31-83 31-96

21” H-DR 74” steel hub to 21” custom rim. 6/8 40

N/A

31-78 19” SportsterR full drum hub (1964 thru 1972) to custom rim. 6/8 40

N/A
31-79 21” SportsterR full drum hub (1964 thru 1972) to custom rim. 6/8 40

If I was a betting man, I'd say the one that says for "sportster 19" Drop center rim" is the one.. however they do no carry them! LOL

looks like this is the best match to the description of the DS spokes that do work

JIREH
SS Chrome Twist Chrome
31-89 31-87 31-95
18” or SportsterR & Super GlideR with disc brake to 18” custom 6/8 40

19” rim or 19” drop center rim.

LOL Yep. here are the PN from drag and desription...
ALUMINUM FRONT HUB DISC BRAKE, INSIDE LACE (NARROW GLIDE)

Part NumberDescriptionSuggested RetailDS-380139 FITS: 73-03 XL, 73-09 FX, POSITION: Front, SIZE: 19”, STYLE: Drop Ctr. Rim Chrome $54.95 DS-380239 FITS: 73-03 XL, 73-09 FX, POSITION: Front, SIZE: 19”, STYLE: Drop Ctr. Rim Stainless, LENGTH: 8 1/4" $159.95

So I'll be sending the ones from Jireh back, and getting the ones for the 19" drop center sent back from them. if they are the same length as the ones from drag.. Ill send the ones from drag back, as I would much rather have stainless, and jireh has a great price, and they are manufactured by midwest motorcycle supply.

So the ones from Drag are the wrong one too man. I had those first DS 380239. The are too short and for a conical hub not a narrow spool. I lost $30 on those. Then I ordered the ones from Buchanans khd902ss and they are way too long. I tried both of these spoke today and neither are correct. I called Buchanans and they said they DO NOT MAKE A PRE-PACKAGED SPOKE THAT WILL WORK. They needed the dimple to oppostie dimple apex measurement and my hub spec to determine this. They stated that given these measurements they could accurately build me a custom set but it would be a made to order set. I say f*ck it, I'm sending you the wheel. Like I said, I had both these spokes side by side and a dude who has been lacing wheels for 20+ years doing my work and neither of them are correct. Maybe companies changed part#s or something, all I know is I could have bought a wheel from black bike for what I have spent on this thing at this point.

Wow! Thats not good... You're lacing up for a street bob right? Also was your part number you stated above a typo for the DS spokes? did you mean 380139?

Thanks

Yep street bob hub. 380239 and 380139 are the same spoke except 380239 are SS and the 380139 are chrome. same length. The part description says 8 1/4" but actual measurement is 8 1/8 by my tape measure. I had someone swear they were the right ones but they don't work. Too short. I have a stock spoke in my hand right now and it measures the same length. There is no way it is the one you need. The stock rim dimple to dimple apex is 18". The Jireh 21x3.25 is 19" due to the deep drop center. I'm not that smart but that sound to me like I need a spoke that is .5" longer than stock.

damn man! That sucks! Almost sounds as if we r stuck having to use the high dollar custom built spokes... but how in the hell are people using this stuff??
My rim is coming in from ride wright. its a 21x3.5 but if the spokes I have are the exact size of the stockers... there's no way they will work on the 21" rim as you said...

This is exactly what i meant in my earlier post about incomplete info/PN's etc..
