Default Big Radius 2-into-2 Pipes

Ok, I just received a quote from the stealership regarding putting in the V&H Big Radius 2-2 pipes and the screamin eagle heavy breather.

This was their reply:

"The pipes are 734.99
S.E. air cl 299.95
super tuner 459.95.
labor 340.00

plus 6% sales

When going to big pipes and high flow air cleaner we find it necessary to go with a race tuner to get the bike running 100% and to make the extra power."
I am not a mechanic at all, so I was hoping some of you bike vets can help me with this, as I feel like I am getting it in the you know what with this quote.

I want some loud pipes on my bike, but I do not want to kill my bank account.

Please note that I am buying the FXDC from them and this is all being done before I get the bike.

Any suggestions?

I just put the big radius 2-2 on my bike and went with the screaming eagle stage 1 air cleaner and then done the stage 1 download and its a huge difference.... I got my pipes from americanclassicmotors.net for around 550 shipped to my door and the air cleaner was 150 and another 150 for the download.... not sure what your looking to spend but I got alot more low end torque and power with what these items for around 850.

If all you want right now is loud pipes then just stick the big radius on your bike and ride. You will not hurt anything. The computer can compensate for the higher flowing exhaust by adding more fuel. If you decide you want a performance intake and filter then you will need to add the fuel programmer because the computer cannot compensate for that much added air flow. All I have on my bike are the Big Radius and my bike runs just fine.

Thats a reasonable price from a dealer.

You could save some on parts by buying online, there are some cheaper tuners out there that still work good, and could save on labor by doing it yourself or having a good Indy do it.

Its all a matter of what you are comfortable with.

That price seems pretty high to me. Both for the parts and especially for the labor. How many hours labor is that price based on? You may be better off trying to purchase the parts elsewhere and just getting the installation done at the dealer, just to save you a few bucks.

man i urge to you reconsider buying those pipes they kill performance and you will lose low end over the factory pipes. get a 2into 1 and have them download a stage 1. you dont need the race tuner. just my 2 cents. alos i have a v&h hi flow air cleaner i can sell ya for 100 i paid 259 and it was used about 200 miles. had to change because i went with a bigger t body.

I realize a 2into1 is a better performing exhaust than a 2into2. Now that being said, my bike has more get up and go than it did with the stock pipes. Unless your drag racing or hauling your bike to dyno days to see who as the best setup it really doesn't matter which of the two exhaust you use as far as I am concerned. Maybe he doesn't like the looks of a 2into1. I know I don't. So saying it will kill performance is a little far fetched.

I paid nearly $2000 to have the same pipes and A/C with the HD SERT, fwiw. I normally would have done this work myself though but the bike was brand new and I just didn't want to have any warranty hassles just in case.

I didn't lose anything off my low end. I have not had it dyno'd but let me tell ya, nothing but increase when I added those same pipes. 2-1 may be better, dunno...but the 2-2 definitely did not hurt my bike.

great responses guys, I truly appreciate it. This is a brand new FXDC, still with the dealer. I am working on final pricing with them and wanted some input from you knowledgeable folks.

I am not a fan of 2-into-1, I really like the looks of the 2-2. By having them do it, it will be under the warranty.

So, if I just get the pipes, I would not need the tuner? I thought you would still need the tuner. If that is the case, that will save me some change.

Thanks everyone, keep your opinions coming!!
