I just posted after getting back Sunday late (left Saturday late). I love the roads there. the animal house part is something that must be seen at least once in your life.
This year we left in the middle of the night Monday, got there (16 hours, trailer) from Chicagolnad, and rode hard Wed and Thurs. Friday we rode some, and then went out to full Throttle in the car. saturday we rode and did the vendors downtown Sturgis. Did 1100 miles in 4 days.
The roads are the best I have ever been on, simply amazing.

The campgrounds and full throttle at 2am are just like the bar in the movie "Dawn to Dusk" - full of vampires and other interesting people. After the pancake breakfasts, and the pancakes on on most of the female flashers - I'm avoiding pancakes for the balance of the year. there were some amazingly pretty girls in the Full Throttle. but that's the exception.

Nemo road
Spearfish
Needles/Iron Mountain

I have no interest in those huge rallies. F that. Too many people, and IMO half there for the wrong reasons, or just shouldn't be there.

I prefer something a little looser.

And closer to home.

 

I was thinking about going back next year. Been areally long time since I have gone. I checked the camping prices for Glenco and it was $300 to get in the gate. No Thank you. If I am going to spend $300 per person to stay somewhere, I want a real bed, AC/Heat, and my own shower. I understand that they have improved the campgrounds over the years, but I am sorry, $300 for a piece of ground is just getting out of hand.

Just think though, when you stay home and go to the bar, you don't have to wait near as long to get a beer.

 

F**k Sturgis, and the rest of the rallys too for the most part.

Last year I did daytona was 95'. Filling up with too damn many of the wrong kind of people.

I ride mostly solo anyway, and don't give a **** about clubs, ect., so the rallys are just the wrong place for me.

I only ride with Mrs Rogue and with her gone for a year, I'll be riding solo I guess.

though I have to admit, I wouldnt mind hitting a big one at least once

Wife has been going to Strugis last six years ( with here lady friends ) I really have no interest would have to ship the DWG from Miami, Fla , I'm not a big drinker and hate being treated like a felon at the airport ..maybe someday I'll go but , not any year soon

 

Haven't been to Sturgis, but went to the Johnstown PA rally recently. I'm guessing it's the same sort of thing, only bigger? I'd like to see it at least once, especially the scenery (and I don't mean the *****), but really all these motorcycle rallies seem the same to me. When I first started riding and going to rallies, I thought it was so exciting and so much fun. But I've kind of tired of the crowds and posers and lines, lines, lines to get a drink, go to the bathroom, get something to eat, etc. In Johnstown, we went to one of the bars and it was absolutely jammed with people. We stood out front just so we could breathe. [sm=sigh.gif] I must be getting old [&o].
