Default solo seat

Hi All, thanks for all the replies about adding a windsheild! I'm thinking about going with a solo seat on my 2009 fxdl.

Any suggestions? gel pad?

Thanks again, Paul

OK, before everybody jumps on you again for being new to this bike thing, consider something like this Mustang seat. Its a very good, very comfortable seat. With it you also have the option to add a matching passenger seat later if the need arises. They are not cheap, but theres a reason. They look good and are a quality seat that lasts. I run this seat and a matching passenger seat for the wife. I can run it as a solo if I want, but usually just run both. Theres a ton of options. LePera, Corbin, Corbin-Gentry, saddleman and others. Dennis Kirk is a great place to start looking. Put in your year and model and they display a number of options that will fit your bike.

I've never sat on one, but I've heard good things about LaPera. And it looks great.

+1 on the C&C - I love my lopro solo (they're not compatible with windshields though)

+2 on C&C

I got the solo and love it! You can get a HDF discount or military through them and their customer service is awesome.

All good advice from everyone who replied here. Here's some more - every butt is different. Had a buddy who put 85,000 on a stock Honda Shadow seat without a complaint. I couldn't last 50 miles on the same seat. Put a Mustang on my Shadow and loved it. Traded bikes and he hated it. He put a Corbin on his Fat Boy and loved it - I had one on my 82 FXRS and couldn't stand a trip around the block.

I love the stock seat on my 09 FLTHC and put 40k miles on my 04 FLHT with the very similar stock seat. Hate the stocker on my 07 FXDB.

Start watching the classifieds here - you'll see folks selling every seat that others rave about. So if there is any way you can trial run seats - ride a buddy's bike or put his seat on your bike for a week, etc - do it. Otherwise it's just an educated guess. If you can, buy used (here or CL or eBay) so you can resell if it doesn't work out.
