Default locking tab ring

Richard,

If you mount hex bolts, you could fab a locking tab ring (see image) to secure the bolts....

I have a bunch of those leftover from my old metric. Maybe we can make them work for ya, Rich.

So are you running a wider than stock tire? I agree that the bolt sounds too short in your application but wonder if that's the case on fully stock? Don't believe I have a spacer but haven't pulled my sprocket or rear wheel yet.

As an aside, here's a question I've pondered - I've always heard that Loctite is a "one time thing". If you use it then re-torque, do you break the bond and make the Loctite pointless?

Had a buddy whose WG did the same thing only the bolts broke off in the rim. Had a machine shop drill and tap the holes and the same thing happened on his way home with the bike from the shop. So he is now hunting for a new wheel as he is not sure if the wheel is any good any good anymore. Aftermarket wheel that isn't made anymore.

Loctite is more like gunk than glue. It is meant to gum up the threads not glue the bolt in.

She is back on the road just did the first test ride and all seems good at this point.

Were you using the stock length bolts with a 3/8" spacer? Are the threads in the hub on you 05' flush to the face of the hub or are they counter bored? Did they actually back out or did they just shear off, it is my understanding this is not common on Dynas prior to 06' and a lot of 06' up owners bolts are just shearing off and not actually backing out so safety wire or lock plates are moot.

I was thinking of using studs and nuts in place of the bolt, but having a hard time finding one that fits the bill.
CB

I see that you are using a non stock wheel is it the H-D Textured Black Slotted 6 spoked?
