Because they don't happen when you don't plan on it. Mine pac manned at 55k. Luckily I was at home when I caught.

Avoidable maybe by changing regularly. but it seems the theory these days is weight until it fails on the road and cell phone mechanic will fix it.

Avoidable? rocks, and who really checks there belt every few thousand? When on trip that few thousand could be far from.

For travellers, they are a good investment. Even guys around home, you can wait hours for a tow truck. I am not carrying on my 5 speed, since I have less than a 1k on this belt, and have not been travelling with it.
Changing a belt on a regular bases would be very expensive. Belt around 250 -300. Doing it your self is out of many rides skill set. Labor of the job is $500 and up.

The belt is something HD did right do your part they last a long time and you catch any issues before it leaves you on the side of the road.

Changing the sprockets adds to cost.

Depends on what you mean by regular. Like most things on Harleys I think 50k, is a time to put on your radar

Stuck on the side of the road and at wrong time can be costly. Not saying I am perfect by any means about follow through
