Default FXDXT Fairing Question

I'll be looking at a 2001 FXDXT here in the next few days. It's seems like a great bike everywhere but up front. I just can't get over the fairing. It just looks wrong to me.

So, would it be easy to swap it for a smaller fairing? Like the Ness or even the HD 1/4 fairing? I like the look of the Ventura styled bikes, so I'm not opposed to either of those and would rather run one of them than none at all. Anyone done it? Any photos? Thanks.

I bought my FXDXT new and love the fairing! What is it about the FXDXT you like that makes you want to buy it? If you take the stock fairing off I am sure there will be willing buyers!

Here's a pic of my T with the "chopped" windshield from Cee Baily's...if you remove the fairing then you've got the mounting lugs left on the tree's; you could use them to solidly mount a different fairing but they won't look too good left out in the open...chop the screen and give it a chance...

You should try riding it with the fairing and without. It does serve a purpose.

definately keep the fairing! I'm kinda wondering the same thing though... I have an 05 fxdx with HD's 1/4 fairing and just picked up a fxdxt fairing and it requires different triple clamps and they relocate the headlight lower and it looks like further forward too and the headlight no longer mounts to the top tree via eyebrow and is moved to the lower clamp for the dxt...

has anyone put either of HD's 1/4 fairings or a nees fairing on a fxdxt without chamging the triple clamps or relocateing the headlight?

I've put both a ness and the h-d 1/4 fairing on a T model. both times required using a dyna/sportster headlight eyebrow and h-light assy which was easy enough to find on the net. Personally to me it's not worth retrofitting a t fairing to a non t bike. If someone had a t missing the fairing, and since they are so hard to find, a ness or 1/4 fairing is easy enough to do and alot cheaper. If you are looking to off your 1/4 fairing let me know, this bikini fairing has got to go, getting killed on my commutes.
