Default A Peek Into My Current Project!!

After I installed my current rear fender my wife decided she wants to start riding with me. After a long search I came to the conclusion that no stock or aftermarket seat would follow the lines of the new fender. So, the only option was to make my own. I finally got off of my lazy butt and got started on the project. Just for reference here is the link to the write up on the fender install. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...nt-decide.html

First was to make a template out of cardboard.

After I decided that it was an acceptable fit I transferred the template to 14 gauge sheet metal and cut it out. After careful fitting and shaping I came up with a fairly nice seat pan.

Now that the seat pan was done it was onto the task of foaming it. That proved to be a long and trying process.

The only problem I am having now is trying to decide what I want to cover it with. My wife has an uncle that has an upholstery shop. I think I am going to check with him too see if he has any Ostrich laying around. I know the seat is still a little ruff. I still have some smoothing out to do and then a 3/16" layer of soft matting to apply to it.

Yeah, this has not been one of my favorite projects. Good thing is, foam is easy to work with. It seems like it is going to be pretty comfy. The foam I am using is Firm Foam Rubber. I am considering installing a Viberider in the back for her as a surprise.

And get some of that 3m protective stick on stuff for the paint on your fender. You don't wanna mess your paint up when you decide to go solo. Them scuffs are a sad sight to see when pull it off.

Thanks guys. Skintbackfarms, the fender started life as a Milwaukee Iron fender blank. The link to the fender is at the top of the thread.

Hey Ghostrider, that seat would look good covered in the vintage style ribbed material in some form. Heres a link to a rough idea.

Are you gonna do a backrest pad?

Yeah, I could see that. It looks like it might be beyond my stitching ability though. In other words to much stitching. I would have to get my wife's uncle to take on that task. You can buy the backrest pad for the sissy bar so if I decide to purchase one I will probably just recover it to match the seat.
