Sure you can, my wife rides an 06 LR and I changed out the rear shocks with Progressive 412's. They are the 11 inch size. Lowered the bike at least another inch. She says it made all the difference in the world. I am waiting to see if Progressive has a lowering kit for the front end. I would like to set that down about an inch as well.

Have 2 10.75" pieces of steel fabricated (whatever shape you desire) by a local CNC shop and then chrome plate them. Bolt on bike in place of shocks and now you have the lowest hard tail dyna there is. Get creative with the design and maybe the back pain will be worth it.
