Default removed muffler baffles 2011 WG

helped removed muffler baffles on my buddy's 2011 wideglide--wow! sounds freaking nice! Drilled out 3 rivets and baffles came out with a few taps.

Did the baffles come out of the front of the pipes? Where are the rivets? (Sorry, I'm out of town, so I can't have a look at them right now.)

Does your buddy know about 'back pressure'?

he is talking about the stock slipons nothing to do with the headpipe. on each stock slipon muffler there are 3 rivets. just drill them out, then there is about a 2' baffle that will slide right out. the rivets are located near the exit of the stock mufflers. the baffle will come out the rear of the muffler once the rivets are removed.

i assume.........

Thanks pontiac, you explained it much better than I could have. is there anything to be concerned about regarding back draft with removing the baffles on the slip on s

Yeah, that's the info I was looking for. I have two pair of the stock slip-ons and am considering trying different baffles with those and the Rush slip-ons to try different sounds.

Back-pressure is important in that it effects your engine's torque curve. Removing the baffles completely doesn't help performance in non-race engines.

What did you end up doing with your exhaust and baffle experiment?

Its my understanding that as long as you run the catalysts performance wont be that great. Its also my understanding that the catalysts have been moved to the head pipes so you cant change them out by swapping slip on mufflers. Im gonna have to look at my service manual and figure out this catalyst thing once and for all. I could be wrong about it. Let me know how your results turn out. Im always looking for exhaust options for my 2011 streetbob.

I got sent to Iraq for a month, so I didn't do anything with that. Right now I have a 3-1/2" pipe and a Rush 2-1/2" baffle that I'm planning to use to fab a 2-1 exhaust out of the stock "Tommy Gun" head-pipe (catalyst removed). I'll hold off on further experiments until I get bored and have plenty of spare time on my hands.

I have two complete stock exhaust systems, so it gives me some freedom to play around. I'll probably start looking for a third stock headpipe soon.
