The HD dealership had me buy Formula One fluid (transmission and primary chaincase lubricant) for topping off. Well dang I sure hope that is correct.

Thanks everyone for the advice, we'll be installing it tonight. It may not even need topping off, I'll see when I look inside.

BTW it's an 08 Dyna Fat Bob

It is full when the fluid reaches the bottom of the clutches with the bike sitting straight up.

I almost, and I say almost wish my wife would bolt stuff on my bike when I'm not around.
I say almost because she is not very mechanical. Unlike you
Yeah I like mechanical stuff, at least the stuff that isn't too hard That's why I'm bummed that I couldn't do this myself as a surprise - I wanted to see how long it took him to notice the new cover!

your a good wife, but I would let him bolt it on next time. If anything goes wrong, it will be all your fault.

Does anyone here torque the bolts to the specifications the service manual says? We don't have that tool.

I'm surprised that you managed to remove it without an impact driver- obviously the previous installer did not use "blue" loctite. Make sure you use locktite when you finish the job. Much more important than torque lbs. IMO

It seems like it was overfilled or maybe some engine oil found its way in. I would drain it all out then add the quart.
