Received COC paper from Dubai Harley.
Took it to the highway department and bike was registered here in the USA.
I know its been over a year but still congrats... I'm actually in the process of figuring out if it is worth it to have my 2003 FXSTS shipped here to Dubai from FL and then ship it back when my contract is up (in two years).

Any thoughts, advise, and opinion would be appreciated.

At the moment... I'm trying to figure out if I have to re-register my bike when I bring it back and end up having to pay tax on it!!! it is registered in FL and collecting dust I'm afraid in my folks place!!!

So far what I have figured out is the cost to ship it from FL here to Dubai.. about $1200 and registration in Dubai with insurance another $1200. But the cost to take it back remains a mystery... you paid about $2200 without registration!!

Between the cost of bring it here and taking it back I will be out more than $4500!!! its not looking good

Yes, it's called "Little Dubai". I think it's down in SoCal.

VMC,
If it where me, I would just buy an used bike there. When your done with it, sell it. Save yourself a lot of hassle. But if you want your bike to follow you around the world, that's cool too.

+1 on that. wouldnt be worth the hassle of registering it there just to bring it back here in 2 years and have to re-register it here again. not to mention shipping fee's and blah blah blah. though it would be cool to say you've riddin your bike in Dubai. personally id buy a used bike there and sell it before returning home.

You'd have to be in love with that bike to deal with all that and spend that much $$. Leave it behind and it will be there when you get home. Buy one over there, use it then sell it when you leave.

I couldn't agree more.. It would be great to have it but the risk, cost and whatever else is not worth it

I'm going to start looking for a used bike!! Thanks for the feedback... I do love my bike and have personalized/fine tuned the way i like it but it might be worth if to save the shipping money for future projects

Though think how awesome it would be to have that little sticker map of the US with states visited, with one little J shaped UAE decal next to it. Well worth the thousands of wasted dollars!
