Default 12" apes versus 8" mini apes

okay, I went to Myrtle Beach this past weekend and i was hoping to see a 2010-11 wide glide with mini apes or apes but no such luck.

I wanted to hear from others that may have a 10-11 wide glide with 12's or with 8's w/ 4" factory risers. Or just from others with knowledge on this.

I want my hands to lift up and com back from where they are currently with the factory set up. I feel like I am hunched over while riding and want a more relaxed ride.

Im in the same boat here man, I scour the dealers every couple weeks in my area to see if i can find one with the bars changed. I hate spending $$$ twice so i will wait and see something in person eventually.

That is the beauty of apes, you can roll them forward or back to find the sweet spot.
Apes do not belong on tall risers though, stick to 2" risers, it looks better.

I have 8 inch bars on my street bob. If you don't want to be hunched over, buy taller bars. The 8 inch bars in a decent looking position will cause you to reach forward.

Yeah go with 2 inch risers and 12 inch apes. It will be more comfortable and look better than 10 or 8 inch with 4 inch risers

I believe this is the way I will go. So, I guess I will need those extended cables if I go this route since the height will be 14" total which is one more inch then the 8" mini with the stock 5" risers. Does this sound right? Goot that stock riser height form the link form Perry Ross (thanks man, good site).

The best so far for cable is $200 does this sound right?

thanks a lot~!

Do not order cables before you know what bars you are going with, and it is best to have the bars before ordering. You can mock something up out of 3/4" pvc and measure for cables, but just adding rise and comparing is not the right way to do it.

Some apes are very wide, and some manufacturers measure rise differently.
My last set of 12" Wild1's were 4" wider than stock and were actually 3" taller than the stock 10" I had, that will all need to be figured in as well.

AeroMike,

Here is your bike with 14" Apes...

14" 1.5 Wild1's
Stainless Steel cables
standard HD 1.5 Risers.

Don't mind the mirrors, those are turned down so I can get the bike into the garage.

Hope that helps. The 14's are high, but that's as high as I would go. 12's would probably be a little more comfortable as I have a low seat, with the rear slammed down almost 2". Your call.

You might want to think about the Wild1 1.5" risers, they are more stable than the skinny little HD risers for tall apes, it made a noticeable difference with my apes.
