Heated Grips or Heated Gloves
#3
For cold weather rides there is no comparison, heated gloves heat your whole hand evenly, grips can never do that.
If you keep 2 fingers on the lever instead of the death grip on the grip, gloves are the only way to go.
If you can't tell I really like my heated Gerbing microwire gloves.
I hated wiring heated grips, especially when they do not do much for fingertips.

Heated grips are good for cool weather. They also come in handy when the temperature drops while you are riding - this way you can keep your hands warm without stopping to change gloves. For me, at a certain point around 45* F, the heated grips are not going to do the job. Either the back of your hands get cold or you have to put on thick gloves where you can't feel the heat anyway. One last thing, HD heated grips have a bad reputation for reliability (Do a quick search in the general or touring forums). My heated grips lasted about 3 1/2 years, now they barely get warm.

I recently bought a set of Gerbing heated glove liners. All I can say is "what the hell took me so long"! I have used heated grips on all my snowmobiles, but after getting these liners, I vote for either gloves or liners. Yeah, there is no plug with the grips, but my entire hands stayed toasty warm. We rode home the other day in 32 degree night air. I was more comfortable than I have ever been. I am a convert to these things and recommend them to anyone who rides in cold weather.

Unless you put apes on your Ultra you don't get direct wind flow on your hands. That makes it a different situation entirely.
