Ok so for Christmas i got progressive 412's for my 01 fxdx yeah i know everyone says OEM are the best ones blah blah but I want it lower so i got the 11'' shocks which will lower it 2 1/2 inches so i may have to cut my fender and such but I am perfectly fine with that. Now my problem is the shock bolt is not long enough, the top of my stock shock is about 1/2 narrower then my new shocks. Has anyone else ran into this? I'm just curious if i can buy stock shock bolts for a dyna and they are longer then mine maybe? Thanks
I'm sure you can take the bolts to ace hardware and find a suitable length which will work, or if you have a fastenal nearby they might have a bolt which will look similar to stock. Just a thought.
From the sound of it your new shocks may not be for your bike.
Stock shock being 1/2 narrower at the top means your new shocks may not sit straight correctly.
Using a longer bolt may weaken your assembly and allow for the bolts to bend.

If you selling your stock shocks I'd like first dibs at em.
I believe you can use the stock Dyna top bolts for the shocks. You will also need to relocate the wires in the fender. I made a simple bracket that attaches to the fender bolts to route it along the side. You may also want to consider flipping the bolts around. Use an acorn or cap nut on the outside. The stock bolts will rub the tire. I lowered mine with 1.75" blocks for a little while, but it bottomed out a couple of times 2 up. I'm 275+lbs. Depending on the day, so it was too much. If I ever did lower again I would only use the progressive 970's or other performance shock. Anything else and you're going backwards.
I hope they meant the length of the stock shocks is superior for handling. otherwise ....
You must not be familiar with the FXDX... The shocks are far superior to later FXD models. they are gas charged, compression and rebound adjustable. Read this....
