New chrome or get stock parts chromed?
I am basically down to the last few parts on my bike that need to be chromed. The swing arm, rear brake setup and various exhaust brackets. Do I just buy new stuff, or do you guys recommend getting the factory stuff chromed at a shop? I found a reasonable shop here in Richmond so I can avoid using the extremely expensive Browns Plating that so many recommend. Am I light years ahead with MOCO parts or are the aftermarket parts I mentioned up to snuff? Please advise.

I have some v-twin parts that started to peel, flake, or discolor in less than 3 months. Haven't seen that with any of the harley parts I put on or that came with the bike, yet.
If you find a local place that does good work for a fair price and stands behind their work go with it. Maybe I'll give them a call and see if they're willing to ship.

Thanks guys for all the replies. Yeah, I really know the answer but I just worry that peeling chrome is just a bad as Asian parts. Though "I" have had good experience in the past with chrome shops, I know plenty of people who have not. Which is not much different with aftermarket parts as a whole. Some are good and some are not. I guess the smart play really is to re-chrome. It also reduces problems if I have issues on road trips since I still have the factory parts on the bike.
I went with this shop here:

Just to be safe, yesterday I dropped off my factory gas tank panel. I wanted to get a chrome panel to match my chrome dash and figure this wold be a great chance to see their work for not much money. The panel is almost 2 feet long and the price quoted was 50 bucks to get it chromed. So I left it with him and we'll see what happens. In this case it was cheaper to get it chromed than buy a new part, but that may not always be the case. I guess if his work looks good, I will go crazy and carefully plan my down time while the parts are getting chromed. I probably can't wait for next winter to finish up the few parts I have left.
edit: And 02fx4, I love what you have done with your bike. Looks amazing!
