I picked up some trucklite LED lamps for my Jeep then wound up selling my Jeep so I put one on my bike and traded off the other one. The HID was brighter but the LED is more directional so its a trade off and if they are both quality brands its really more personal preference. The intensity of the light is similar between them so for me it was just that I already had one. Otherwise I wouldn't pay $250 for just a LED headlamp when you can run an HID for about $70 from DDM that works just as good. Halogen vs LED vs HID is its own debate that usually involves a lot of uneducated bullshit internet mythology so I am staying away from that argument lol.
The slim ballast will fit in a bullet, not sure about a regular size bucket like a Fat Boy bucket but the ballast is about the size of a wallet and black so if it won't fit in the bucket its easy to hide on the frame with some black zip ties. I have used DDM tuning HID kits on three different rigs and in my old bike and they all worked great. I made sure to run 5600k color bulbs though so the cops don't pay much attention to them cause thats about the same color as the Sylvania Halogen bright whites you see a lot cars running these days.
