Default Buying new bike. 87 FXR 106" 110HP, need advice!

Hey I am planning on purchasing a 1987 FXR Lowrider with a 106" stroked motor that has 110 HP at the wheels (dyno proven). My concern is, will this thing last? and also does anyone else know anything about these 106" stroked motors? Is this a good buy for $5500, or should I go stock? Any info or help would be awesome! Thanks guys.

Find out as much as you can about the motor, such as who built it (reputable shop?) and how much time/miles is on it. Other than that, check for the usual things you'd look for in a used bike (current condition usually indicates how well it's been maintained).

You already plan on buying it but are concerned with its reliability? Just buy it and enjoy the heck out of it.

I would give it a miss myself but thats me to long in the tooth for me, plus a 106? someone that wanted that power would have put some hard miles on it at some point, be a time bomb if you ask me.
I would drop that money into something newer and have a better platform to build off moving forward.

Gee, a 25 year old bike that has been modded to the max.

Yeah, that sounds like it is going to be problem free for many miles to come.

My bike has that kind of power,in a tc 106.
If you buy it I suggest holding on real tight.

me personally, id buy it. its already got motor work done and wouldnt be as expensive to fix it than having the work done. and im sure its been abused somewhat if the PO put a 106 in it putting out 110hp. i know id abuse it some. 5500 for an fxr with motor work done sounds like a good deal to me. im trying to find a good deal on an fxr now but everyone around here wants 7500+ for stock fxr's and anything below that price looks like crap.

so a 25 year old stock would be better?

people who modify a bike usually dont sell right after they do it, they probably rode it for awhile untill they got bored.

I'dd buy it if I where you but only if you have extra money to spare so you can fix it when it breaks down. Because it probably will. The price he asks for it, (as long as everything works) at this point is worth it in my opinion. Hell for a couple hundred, you can take apart the engine and make sure everything is working as it should. Throw in a couple thousand and you can have it in like new condition!
