Default I'm a dumbazz newbie.

I am learning about my bike (and other in general) relatively quickly.

BUT I was floored this morning. When I bought my bike in July I bought it under the pretenses of it having a Stage 1 upgrade. I took it into the service dept to lean it out a bit. I've adjusted the screw, changed the plugs, cleaned the air filter/cleaner and still couldn't get it running smoother.

I added a fuel additive, flushed and cleaned the carb, etc. Every minor thing I could do without taking it to a professional for a pro tuning.

Anyhow, you see where this is going. They called me to tell me they couldn't lean it out any because of my set-up. Why not? All I have is performance pipes, but not full stage 1 (carb kit/performance cleaner, etc).

I know, I should have KNOWN by looking at it, working on it, etc. But, I didn't get a manual with the bike, and why would you doubt the dealership who sold you the bike with Stage 1 on the paperwork!? It all seemed legit to me because I didn't know what I was looking for.

The dealership is now making this right by upgrading it for me cost free as they should, and making some other workI wanted done since it was in the shop @ 10% off, but I learned a lot today.

There's a sucker born every minute. When i bought the bike, I was that sucker. IF you are realtively (or completely) inexperienced with motorcycles please take the time to talk to the service techs that have inspected your bike if you're buying used or previously modded equip. - you may be suprised about what you can learn..

Adamecs HD @ Regency in Jacksonville Florida.

I rode in this morning and despite the cold rain, it ran pretty good. I think my fuel/air balance is still off a bit because it didn't want to run with the choke all the way in even after 8 miles. It'll just take a bit to get used to it.

Riding it like I previously did now seems to be ineffective on the bike. The mph I used to base my shifts off of now seems under where it should be.

I used to feel the need to shift around 25-30 into 3rd, 45 into 4th, 5th @ 55 from sound/feel of the bike.

Now it feels like I don't need to shift into 3rd until 30 (maybe 35), 4th around 45-50, 5th 60+.

Is this normal? Makes my riding a he!! of a lot louder, but makes the bike feel more sluggish. Periodic backfires on trying to give it a bit of throttle. My guess is I'm sucking more air in than I can push out. May need to get the new jets adjusted.

Either way - thanks for the repsonses!
