Caliper Mount Adapter for 2000-up retrofit on 84-99 Front Ends?
Whelp...I screwed up
Need some help.
I ordered the wide glide front end from Demon's. I was looking at a stock length/rake front end from them, that said for 2000-up. At the last minute, I decided to go with a 3 degree rake and +2" length, so ordered that one. Well, I ordered the front end that is for 84-99 calipers...FML
Returning it would be a deal breaker, I'd lose about $100 in restocking fees, plus my shipping cost, then I'd have to start over
So I have 3 options.
1- Purchase the brake caliper mount adapter for $50, so I can still use my 2002 FXDL front caliper.
http://www.demonscycle.com/Brakes/Br...l#.Uakqk9hlRHA
2- Purchase a pre-2000 caliper for a little less than $200 new, or just look for a used one.
3- Sell the brand new, un-used, uninstalled front end setup for about $70-$100 loss to me (after shipping), and buy the correct 2000-up front end setup?
I don't know anything about these caliper mount adapters...will they reduce wheel clearance? Since I'm putting a 16" wheel in there, it's going to be tight already. Will the caliper adapter push the caliper out/up in a way that it will get closer to the 16" rim?
Any ideas/help would be appreciated Eventually, I will learn to deal with my impulsive decisions a little better....
I already have the Heritage 16" spoke wheel too, and returning it would probably be cost prohibitive. And I have no desire to replace the lower sliders with 2000-up on a brand new front end that I just damn bought...

Ebay has all kinds of pre 2000 calipers, the only thing I don't like about the pre 2000 is they are 2 piston calipers, you can get a Harley clone 4 piston that looks just like the 2000 up that will fit on the 84-99 legs. Also when installing a 16 front you will need a 1/4 brake rotor spacer if you are installing this on a wideglide front end , unless you have a heritage style lower legs, I know as I installed a 16 on a wideglie dyna front end, and will also need new spacers to centre the front wheel, here is a pic of mine with the wideglide front end with 16 inch wheel on a 2002 FXD.your low rider would already have the 32 degree neck and mine has 28

Thanks for replying Rob. I remember seeing a couple posts of yours in another thread. After reading your posts, I had anticipated some spacer requirements for the wheel and rotor, but I just figured out that I ordered the wrong damn frontend. Trying to figure out where to take my losses, as far as how to fix my screw up.
Do you think the pre-2000 A/M 4 piston calipers would cause any clearance issues with the 16" wheel, I.e. are they bulkier than a stock caliper?

No they are the same size, as a friend of mine bought a pre 2000 front end and installed the 2000 up style caliper for 84-99 front ends, he even bought the chrome one for 235.00 Canadian new, much cheaper state side for black, these even use the stock HD brake pads, Sell your old caliper to recover some of the costs

Ahh, ok, cool, thanks!
I'll start searching for that type of caliper. In the mean time, I have an email into Demons, to see how much $$ I'll lose if I send this front end back and buy a 2000-up from them. I just don't know anything about the conversion brackets, and would hate to spend $50 on another thing that won't work for me. Jerry rigging my front brakes is the last thing I want to do
You have a good point about selling the stock caliper to recoup losses from my idiot move
