Default 2005 Used Dyna Opinions

Hi, I am new to the forum.

Im looking for some advice from dyna riders on my search for a bike. A little background, I have been riding motorcycles for 15 years, owned an XR 400 street legal and a Suzuki Boulevard S40 (Suzuke Savage.) I am trying to sell the Boulevard to get a bike with more power to ride on the freeway.

After considering the sportster, I figure it is worth the more money upfront to find a Dyna or Dyna Sport. I am trying to learn as much as I can about these models before making a choice. I don't want a bike that has a bunch of aftermarket parts on the motor, Id rather have something stock and dependable and upgrade the few parts I want to on it myself.

I found this bike in my area; http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/mcy/3948008816.html
The guy is asking blue book price on it, and it looks clean.

I really like the looks of the sons of anarchy bikes but am concerned riding something like that may attract the wrong attention. I am thinking if I find a bike stock, similar to that one I found on CL that I could put TBARS on it, black out the exhaust and wheels and would have a stock bike with the look that I like.

A few questions,
do you think that bike is fair priced in its stock condition ?
can I put 10" rise TBARS on that Dyna without having to change the cables ?
How much / how tough to black powder coat the wheels and exhaust ?
Would you suggest a stock bike is more dependable than one with aftermarket parts ?
What will be the big difference between a Dyna and Dyna Sport ?

Thanks for any help
Bob

Price seems OK, maybe at the high end of what I see them going for around here. It's basically KBB retail then he's throwing in the slip-ons and rack. It does look very clean though.

I can't imagine there'd be enough excess slack to accommodate those high bars.

Don't know how much powder coating wheels would be. May be cheaper to buy a new black exhaust and just sell yours?

Generally more dependable stock but it depends on what parts and who installed them too.

The main difference in a Dyna Sport is the longer travel suspension with adjustable damping and twin disc front brakes. It also has a tachometer, blacked out drive train, and dual seat standard.
Either Dyna could have come with spoke or cast wheels and in 2004-05 carb or fuel injection.

The best thing about the 2005 model is that its not the 2006 model. Personally.. you should look for a 2007 or later because you will get the 6 speed, fuel injection, the better ECU and no issues.

I agree, probably good to avoid a 2006. Also be aware many 2005's had an oil burning issue caused from Harley changing the valve stem size or seals. They warranted many of them. I would ask the owner about oil consumption and what (if any) warranty work was done.

Keep looking. I looked for five months and finally found a 2009 Super Glide custom with slip ons, highway pegs, and only 3,900 miles in like new condition for $7,300 and it was less than 150 miles away.

most of the bikes you find will have only had a stage 1 done. Thats exhaust, high flow air cleaner and some type to tuner to richen up the air fuel ratio = a good thing

SOA? I dont think anyone is going to shoot you if your running a small fairing, T bars and aftermarket exhaust
