Default pipes and reprogram question

So i just purchased a set of vance and hines short shots from the classified section for my 12 Wide Glide. My question is with just the pipe change, do i need to have the ecu modified or can i wait until i change the air filter out

Just Wait no big deal . The ECU will adapt to JUST pipes

You can even throw on a aftermarket air cleaner!

He could but he'd be getting near the edge.
@ midge just pipes = no problem, that's as far as I'd go without a re-tune.

Went to the dealership for open house last night and talked to them about stage 1 options. Basically they said the download would enough to make the bike run right, however it was 149 for the download and 40 for install. He also said that a tuner with a dyno would run better but that would mean 400 for the race tuner and another 400 for the dyno tune. I really didnt like either option so i ordered a pair of of nightrider FL-VIED for the wide glide, i bought them off ebay so i hope they are ok. Who has used the new variable set of these and what setting are you running. I plan to get a screaming eagle stage one air cleaner once i can find the $150 extra, specially with the government shut down meaning we wont get paid.

i put my short shots on yesterday, rode it ran good with them, better than stock, today i got my xied that i bought on ebay, at first didnt notice much difference however by the time i was done with about a 30 min ride it was really starting to run better. It still has a slight pop on decel but not to worried, next step an air cleaner

I have a set of VIEDs, they work good. Took the pinging out,and runs cooler.

At what point do you need to get a dyno tune - with pipes and air cleaner? What happens if you don't?

Id like to know this as well, I have a fuel pak on the bike so idk if that helps but would i need a tune when theres an air cleaner?
