Default Primary Gaskets help

I took the inner and outter primary gasket off of my 2006 dyna super glide. I know that I have to replace the inner primary gasket, and the outter primary gasket. Also, I am going to replace the little O rings on the bolts that hold the inner primary.

My question is: When looking at the inner primary, Do I have to replace the ball bearings where the starter goes through? There is a rubber piece that I am going to replace, but I am curious on the actual ball bearing.

Is there any seals that I have not mentioned that I should replace? Thanks in advance

??? Can you take a picture? What ball bearings? There should only be a single roller bearing that the mainshaft goes through not the starter.

If I recall those sealing bolts with the "o-rings" are one time use, you replace the entire bolt, and it comes with a new seal on it. Should be 5 of those.

Are any of the seals leaking on the transmission case? There's 3 to check:

1) in between the mainshaft and main drive gear that the pulley rides on
2) the big one behind the pulley, you won't be able to see it with the pulley on
3) behind your shifter jackshaft, won't see it with the shifter arm installed, but can look for a leak without removing (it'd be running down the case)

On a 2006, inspect that "roller bearing for the mainshaft" carefully. There are known issues with that year. If I had mine apart that far, I'd probably just replace it. The original service manual for that year recommended replacing it every 14,000 miles or so. Later, they removed that recommendation. Maybe it was because it didn't sound good, because inner primary bearing problems on that year didn't go away.

Just use the kit (black = 25700337; stock silver = 25700226). It comes with the transmission shaft oil seal, sealing fasteners, o-rings for the starter and drain plug, c-clip for the clutch adjuster, and a derby cover seal. You'll also need the outer primary gasket no matter what and a tower gasket if you have mids since they're not part of that kit.

Didn't know they came out with that. .kind of seems expensive? The prices I have for the items in the kit from LSHD when I ordered last month:

25416-99C Derby cover Gasket pancake style $6.50
786A Sealing fastener (5) $11.95
34934-06 Crankcase gasket $11.32
27444-00Y O-ring, starter to case $3.20
12052A Oil Seal, Inner primary/mainshaft $4.14

Total $37.11

The HD kit from LSHD lists for $52.66 w/ discount, includes additionally the clutch circlip and 3 o-rings for the drain plugs. .can't imagine three o-rings and a circlip costs the $15 difference, and that's if they're even needed. .my circlip didn't distort at all when I removed it. You'd think the price would be better for a 'kit' versus pieced together individually. Convenience tax?

I can help you out on this. I am doing this as we speak to my 2006 Wideglide. Here is what you need since you removed the inner primary.
I got all these parts from Dennis Kirk online.
5pcs Genuine James 786A seals (these are for the 5 sealing bolts for the inner primary)
1pc Baker 189-56 sealed bearing
1pc Genuine James outer primary gasket
1pc Genuine James inner primary gasket
1pc Genuine James starter O-Ring
1pc Genuine James primary drain plug O-Ring
1pc Genuine James outer primary inspection cover gasket (also known as the clutch cover)

All of these gaskets cost me $55.00 shipped. James is a very good brand.

Make sure you either replace your stator/compensator cup with the 2007 version if yours is bolted and not welded. You could also have the compensator cup bolts tack welded (that's what I did)

Because you have an 2006 you shouldn't have the 2 locating dowel holes drilled into your transmission case. You will have the these 2 holes in your inner primary because ALL of the Harley 88CI inner primary cases are drilled for these dowels even though the 2006 Dyna models can't use them. This is why its absolutely 100% necessary for you to install the Baker high torque sealed bearing once you have removed the inner primary. You will need to remove the race from the transmission shaft but that's a 5 minute process.

Also.. I would recommend replacing the stock primary chain tensioner with either the upgraded 2007 version, the screaming eagle version or the Hayden M6 BT07 which is what I bought.

I just checked LSHD1 for the parts specified for my 2014.

17369-06 clutch cover seal and drain plug o-ring $5.12
786A sealing fasteners (5) $14.95
34934-06 inner primary gasket $14.15
27444-00Y starter o-ring $4.00
12052A oil seal $5.17
37909-90 clutch adjuster retaining ring $12.68
Total cost of $56.07

25700337 black gasket kit $52.66
25700226 stock silver gasket kit $46.50

If you go for stock and include everything, the kit saves you about $10. If you want to reuse the circlip, you can save about $3 by purchasing the individual parts. I wanted the black gasket, so I just bought the kit, which saved me about $4. I believe the black gasket is available individually, but I'm not certain about that.

Pricing didn't seem too bad to me.
