I went through 3 sets of saddle bags in 3 years. first set, hard leather, bought from Viking Bags. Last 3 months before I hit a bump, and the bolts holding it on snapped and sent it down the highway.
Second set, same bags, following year, except I used grade 8 bolts instead of the crap ones that come with the bags. Well, they stayed on, until I hit a bump, and smashed the swing arm on the bottom of the bag and put a hole in the bag... also lost the axle nut cover. patched the bag, re-drilled the holes and raised it up, then it just looked stupid.
3rd set, got lucky. dealer had a set of direct fit large hard lather bags, used, was installed on another bike, then taken off. Offered 40% or something. best money I spent on bags was the direct fit harley ones. And they look sick, they have the cut-outs on the bottom of the bag for the swing arm.
