Default Tank lift and fuel level

Will a 2" (in the front) gas tank lift have any effect on the fuel gauge or fuel capacity? Just installed and it looks great.

I don't see why it would affect capacity much. Might lose a slight amount towards the front now elevated part. Probably not enough to worry about though. Same with the gauge I would think.

I'm running a 2" lift. It will definitely throw your gauge off, not that its that accurate to begin with. Mine will say I'm completely empty and I've still got 1.5 gallons left. Doesn't seem to have much affect on capacity, but I've never run it empty to find out.

I was wondering this also. I did a 2 in lift on my 48 and I could only go 45 miles be for having to fill up. If you bike is lowered in the rear it also affects it.

The gauge will read a bit different, but usable capacity is virtually unchanged.

Here's a link to a thread with a lot of info on the subject-

Not quite.
Tilt the tank, and the fuel pickup or tank outlet may no longer be at the lowest part of the tank, leaving fuel at the bottom that can't be used.
And if the gas cap is no longer at the top of the tank, you can't fill it all the way either.

For all practical purposes for 99.9% of people riding it is unchanged.

I qualified my statement for the 1/10th of 1% of the riders who go well past the fuel light coming on, or the MTE gauge saying no miles left with the link above.

In the real, everyday world, are there a few instances where someone may lose 5-10 miles of range with a tank lift....yes, but it is rare. About the only guys that may see it impact their daily riding are the 2.2 gallon tank guys who are more likely to go close to actually empty (forget the gauges) before filling up.

I have a 3" tank lift on my sporty with a 3.3 gallon tank...more than a few times I have filled it with 3.1-3.3 gallons. No pics though.

There have been more than a few times where I have filled my 6 gallon tank with anywhere from 5.95 to 6.05 gallons and NOT been sputtering before fill-up.

Here's a pic of one time...this bike has a 1.5" tank lift on it.
