Default Brake Lever a bit Loose & Keeps Light on

My 2012 Fat Bob has about 6,000 miles. The brake lever is a bit loose and keeps the rear brake light ON all the time. If I manually push the lever forward, the light goes off but when I stop pushing it, it goes back to press the on-off switch. The brake action seems ok, not spongy.

I checked the service manual and it only shows one spring against the plunger. Could it be that the spring needs to be replaced to push the lever out? Or are there any other ideas or something there that could be causing this. I haven't taken the lever apart, yet.

It is just about 1/8" to 1/4" free play. To engage the actual brake action is a lot more, of course...maybe about 1" or a bit more.

Sounds like it needs bled. If it still does it then the plunger spring or scraper may be bad.

Shine a flashlight in the gap the lever goes into. You'll see the rubber plunger the lever pushes on going into the master cylinder. Spray it with silicone lube and work it in and out with the lever. Problem solved.

It's item 3 in your diagram.

You're not showing the right diagram. There's an electrical brake switch in that area that often breaks. There's also a little clip that's necessary for it to function properly. My switch was broken when I bought it with 15K miles. Cost about $35 to buy parts, 10 minutes to install.

His brake switch is working properly the lever isn't returning fully.

that's right^^
And if silicone won't do it you will have to replace the kit. no amount of bleeding will help.

Well you'd be surprised how much bleeding followed by cleaning all caliper pistons firms the lever up and changes where the lever starts to engage. But yes try the silicone first it's easy and quick.
