Default Relay for Garage Door Opener?

I'm seeking wise counsel from someone with a little more electrical know-how than me. I spent a few hours yesterday on forums combing over garage door opener installations, but none solved my problem below.

I have a 2013 FLHRC. I have the 12v Genie garage door opener remote connected to the (left side nacelle) aux switch under the seat. Jumped the button on the remote, soldered the +/- battery terminals to a Deutsch connector, and plugged it in. Works great. Toggle the switch on and off, and the garage door opens and closes. Except....

My timing has to be just about perfect. If the switch is thrown for not long enough or too long, the door doesn't move or the door gets too many signals and only opens partway. Then I sit in the driveway throwing the switch back and forth until the opener gets the right signal.

So what are my options? Would replacing the left side nacelle switch with a momentary SPST (on)/off solve the problem? Or would some sort of time delay relay be a better solution?

Cheers,
-Paddy

How long will that send power to the opener remote?

Wait, are you send power or just a momentary close? You should just need a dry contact closure to activate the inside receiver that's paralleled on the opener.

It will send power to the remote only for as long as you have the button pushed.
My remotes require I push and hold the button for a second or two before responding. Yours may be different so you will need to experiment.

So, right now, with the stock switch, power is on as long as I have the switch in the up position. I'd like to have it, regardless of how long I have it in the on position, send the same amount of power/time-on to the controller unit.
