98 fatboy voltage regulator

98 fatboy voltage regulator
Replacing the old voltage regulator on my 98 fatboy. Two questions: 1. There is no ground strap on the new regulator. Is the new regulator grounded when bolted to the frame? 2. The lead going to the circuit breaker has a red lug. The old one had a yellow one. One side of the circuit is red and the other yellow. The old yellow was on the yellow side. Should the new red go on the red side?

The wire with the ring terminal should go on the output side of the main breaker (silver stud).
Years ago they used to connect that wire to the other breaker terminal, but sometime in the early `90s they decided to connect to the output side. I does not affect how the regulator works either way, but when you connect to the output side, the wire from the regulator is protected by the breaker if it chafes and grounds out.

1. The vol uth a hgv e regulator is aftermarket, but even so the service manual only has 3 steps.
2. Thanks for the info on the circuit breaker studs. Manual was silent. Everything hooked up ok.
3. Good ground on regulator.
Status: situation now worse than before i replaced the regulator. Good AC voltage out of stator. No charging voltage out of regulator. Engine now running on 1 cylinder (front) most of time and there is now backfire through the exhaust. None of this existed before i swapped out the regulator. I could really use some technical assistance to help determine what went wrong where.
