FXR Popping/Stuttering at steady throttle

Default FXR Popping/Stuttering at steady throttle

Hey guys, looking for a bit of a direction on an issue with my FXR. Getting sputtering and popping after putting back together my evo after a cam change.

1989 fxr
evl 3030 cam
New HD Lifter
New adjusable Screaming Eagle pushrods
S&S Super E
Thunderheader
New Ultima Ignition/Coil




The bike rips when you are really on the throttle, but at steady throttle the bike pops through the pipe and stutters. Im running an s&s super e and It had a .295 and ran fine before I tore it down. Sounded like I needed to bump up the jet..went with a .231 and it was running very rich and popped and stuttered more. Went back to a 295, down to a 28...even to a 265. I have the best results at a 28 but still not great.

Triple checked new ultima ignition timing....also got a 5hg reading on VOES.

Like I mentioned, if im on the throttle I can run right through all gears without the bike giving any hesitation and is runs great...Its only while the bike is at a steady speed and throttle.


What am I missing? Drilling a jet?

What is the cold cranking compression of each cylinder?

150psi on front and rear cold
160psi front hot and 162psi rear hot

Tried swapping out the pipe for a set of drags to see if anything changes and got nothing.

Electrical-
Swap back old ignition and coil also check battery connections and wiring.
Doesn't mean anything that they are new-can fail at install/first fire up.
Check wiring and plug wires at coil. Check plugs, and look for white/lean or fouling/black plug.
Holding ignition at a certain rpm under constant load steady can expose electrical issues.
Is ignition a fixed dial in? Settings adjustable?
