Starter setup for 1982 ironhead
I am pretty new to the forum and this is my first harley project and i have a few questions about the starter setup. I have the motor but no housing. I have looked online for the rest of the parts that go along with the motor but i can only find it for the 1979 model. What parts other than the motor do i still need? would 1979 sportster starter parts fit on an '82? If not, does anyone know of anywhere i can find these parts? lastly, where can i find a clymer manual online for an '82 sportster? Thanks!

The '79 Sportster used a different starter than the '82. You need to find a starter for an '81-'85 Sportster. I've got an old '81 Sportster chopper in my garage, I'll try to take a pic of the starter for it later tonight. I've seen the new on eBay for about $150, but you have to be careful because some sellers have their fitment information wrong.

I'd suspect Tedd's would have your XL parts.
