Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I have a question that has my mind boggled. Why is it that someone can buy S&S parts with the same part number from Amazon through another S&S dealer for less than cost? My machine shop who is building my 124" asked me this and I understand his frustration.
I guess it's like anything else here in the USA the more quantity you move, the cheaper you can get the product and that's how people do it I guess.... Unless it's not the real deal and then I guess you got to be careful, know what you're buying......
I always double check part #s with the manufacturer and make certain the item is new before purchasing. My builder is frustrated as an S&S dealer and if parts brought in from outside the shop fail there will be no warranty which i totally understand.
I would have but I bought the kit 9 months ago. Now I feel bad that I didn't go through him. At the time I was going to have a Harley dealer do the work.
They are going to spec everything out especially the flywheels which is nice. And I was just informed that S&S can warranty their products as long as I fill out and send in their warranty card.
I've purchased many S&S products off sellers on Amazon and saved a ton of money. I've also purchased em through local shops, just sometimes the price is too good to pass up and would coat 100's more at a shop. I understand how a owner of a shop can be upset by that, but in that case they need to adjust their pricing to make it competitive
When you're spending $7k-$8k on an engine you find yourself looking for deals. It would be foolish to cut corners because you can't afford full retail price when you ca find the exact same parts for way less.
