Default 2004 Fatboy with big bore kit

I just bought an 04 Fatboy that has the screaming eagle big bore kit on it. Has the compression release on the heads. Is there any way for me to tell what the kit contained, such as cams, hp increase and such? It has 17k on the bike not sure about the kit. Figured it might be a good idea to do all the tensioners and cam bearings due to the age.

If the work was done at a dealership, the information you are looking for should be in their computer system. Take your VIN to the nearest dealer and have them do a search. Typical Big Bore kit is converting the top end from 88" to 95", heavy duty clutch spring and SE203 cams. Compression releases in the heads would indicate, to me anyway, aftermarket work on the heads which would include porting and milling for compression but a dealership would not be doing that work. You could pull a compression test which would reveal something and you can pull the cam cover and check the cams for ID.

Wouldn't hurt to check the pinion shaft T.I.R. on that 2004.

Compression releases means those heads have been in a machine shop. Most heads that end up in a machine shop get more than just releases. That said, compression releases aren't needed on just a 95 bore with SE flat tops, unless the heads have been milled and/or a .030 head gasket was installed. No way to tell about the cams unless you look. I did a 95 kit, and sent my heads to Kirby Apathy for a street port, an oversized intake valve, and milled for a slight compression bump. While they were there I added releases, but if not for the headwork I wouldn't have sent them in for just that.

it would be a good idea to at least pop the cover off & take a look at the tensioners, while in there check what cams are in it
