He said he gave Harley $1200. Not sure as I didn't see the invoice, but probably not much more than a normal service and tires maybe.

It wasn't a small amount of oil, and had been leaking it fairly quickly before the flood. Looked to be out of the case without getting under it.

Go take a look at it. Might be the breather hose pissing oil from a leaky check valve and full sump, might be a huge hole in the case. One is a cheap fix. The other, about $3000-$6000, depending on the motor you chose and how much of the work you do yourself.

I'd go V111 regardless of what's up with the motor.

Don`t you think you may be jumping the gun a little here?

You haven`t even looked at the motorcycle yet...

I have not inspected it after it let go, however I'm very familiar with the bike and two previous owners.

Familiar with the bike and previous owners, so what?

The point is you have not even looked at the bike since the problem occurred, and you are talking about crate motor.

Yeah, I’d investigate it a bit more. Take it to the dealer if you need to for a diagnosis. It could be some dried out gaskets, bad or clogged breather, or it hydrolocked and it’s toast.

1. GO GET IT.
2. Inspect it.
2a. Figure out what is wrong.
2b. Figure out what is right.
3. Make a plan or sell it.

or

I'll come get it this weekend and bring $100 cash so it costs you nothing and you make money to boot.

Check motor rotation by hand then try a compression test, if all that passes then attempt the repair.. If not then I would look into an S&S 111 or a 124"er. I would at least tear it down just to see what going on with the oil leak. And 94 cases are not bottom breathers...

At dealer prices that's 2 tires and an oil change.
Just go and get it! Or tell me where it is

Since the bike has been sitting, and gas flowed out pipes on first start, it's more than likely that the oil drained from the tank into the motor and possibly gas from the tank may have flowed past the carb float an into the motor also. The engine is basically full of oil with some gas mixed in. On startup it will blow a bunch out the breather. You can pull the timing plug and crank the motor over someplace where it can make a mess.. Bet some oil squirts out. You might want to pull the plugs and crank the motor over with the starter and keep and eye on the oil level in the tank. It's possible that the original owner saw the tank was empty when the oil had really drained into the motor and added oil to the tank.
